It has been said time and again that pregnancy is the best and most beautiful journey that a woman can undergo. She learns so many new things about her body and there are plenty of mixed emotions that you feel during this phase. The moment you see the little one in your hands, it is the best moment of your life, especially for women.

However, this dream can be a distant reality for some people. Even when you are young, there is a possibility that you cannot conceive naturally and that is when you start looking for options to make your dreams come true. There are various ways to get pregnant, although, IVF enjoys popularity and is widely accepted.

Many people in our country do not understand the concept of IVF or In Vitro Fertilisation. We hope that this blog post will make the journey of fertility treatment less scary and mysterious for some. To those who are beginning this beautiful journey, we wish you all the luck and strength and to those who are here for just the knowledge, we hope that you understand the pains that one goes through when one cannot conceive naturally and are compassionate towards them.

What is IVF?

IVF or In Vitro Fertilisation is a process, in which one extracts a woman’s eggs, fertilizes them with sperms in a dish, and puts back the well-looking embryo or more embryos back into the woman’s uterus with the aim of achieving a pregnancy. This entire process is known as an IVF cycle.

In this procedure, you will have to give yourself daily shots of hormones to stimulate all your follicles. Just when your eggs are ready and mature, they are taken out through a minor ultrasound guided procedure under anesthesia. After that, doctors combine your eggs with your husband’s sperm in a dish and let them develop on their own. This process varies from person to person, for some, it might yield results in a couple of days while for some it might take more than that. The best one of these eggs is transferred back into your body and you have to wait till you confirm the pregnancy through a test. The rest of the embryos are sent back for genetic testing to make sure if any of them could be frozen for future babies.

So, to-be-parents this is the brief description of the IVF process which seems a lot of science, which it is, but it is not intimidating. You just need to give yourself a bit of time to understand the step-by-step process. For every woman this process is different, so our advice is to learn new things on your own, be patient and optimistic.

Although, the entire process seems a lot easier in theory,it is not in reality. It involves a lot of medication, frequent visits to the doctor and the rate of success is less than 50%. When you are looking forward to having a baby and the procedure is this tiresome, that after some time it might become overwhelming; however, all these things are worth it, because, at the end of the day, you get to be the mommy/daddy.

What changes does the injection of hormones cause in a woman?

This is, without doubt, the most troubling issue for most women. However, it isn’t much of a concern, as it does not affect you much, as these strange hormones do not have a physical impact on you; they just make you go through a roller coaster of emotions. They wreck your mental peace because you do not have much control over them but you are deeply concerned about the outcome, i.e, the baby. Thus, the entire process is more about unsettling emotions and your entire being is focused on a positive result. To look at this from a different angle, you experience similar melancholy, when you conceive naturally, even then the emotions are high and you feel quite vulnerable. So, it is not the process of IVF that takes away your serenity, it is the feeling of becoming a mother.

Can you still work/ hang out with friends/ look after your family?

Yes, why not? The procedure of IVF should not become the center of your life. In fact, it works just fine if you have something else to look forward to, like going to work, meeting friends, or being as involved in household chores as much you can. All these things bring peace to your already disturbed mental peace.

What is that one thing that you should keep in mind when going through this scientific process?

Most of the women, who go through this process, do not understand that it takes time, its outcome is never 100% positive and it varies for everyone. For some, it works in the first attempt, while for some it takes time. Therefore, you need to be patient and do not need to fret.

It is understandable that you cannot conceive naturally, but look at the bright side, you still get to feel all the emotions in this scientific process. We advise you to focus on this side and remain as less concerned as possible. This overwhelming procedure is the key to your immense happiness and it will be more amazing if you understand all these things and are well-informed.

We hope that this blog helps you to know both the up and downside of this process and makes your entire IVF cycle smooth.
